Masai Woman Builds Beautiful Off-Grid Homestead in the African Bush

https://www.youtube.com/embed/TEBelPUM8tA

Hi everyone my name is Selina Nkoile. I'm a  Maasai woman and I come from Narrow county.   Welcome to our maasai boma, our homestead,  I'm really excited to take you around and   show you what we've been able to do:  our edible gardens, our food forest,   and all these elements that we've been able to put  together for the last one year and three months. Being among the first women to be able to  go to school in my village, I thought that   it was good for me to come back home and share the  lessons that I have learned over the years with my   community. My life has been all about community  ever since I was born.

I have been a community   child and that is exactly what our homestead is.  With the gazebo we build, people come to chill,   charge their phones, and just have conversations  and have kahawa and great music.   We live completely off-grid, we have our solar  power here and we don't have running water,   we harvest rain water. It's good because we  then don't get to pay all of these bills. Like,   we don't have water bills, we don't pay rent, and  so it makes our lives easier and more sustainable I grew up in a 100 percent traditional Maasai  setting, and I remember us depending entirely on   our animals for milk, meat and blood, and we would  go get our fruits from the forest while grazing   animals.

And so the Maasai I was 20 years  ago is not the Maasai I am right now, because   times are changing, climate change is  making all of these wild fruits disappear.   And also we can no longer depend on our  animals one hundred percent because most   of the time they're away from home and  this is really what is now pushing us,   the Maasais, to explore different  other sources of livelihood securities. So here we have our edible garden where we  grow most of our vegetables. It's important   to have a center like this where people  can come and learn the basics of organic   farming and how to grow their own food and get  even a source of seeds.

pexels-photo-1019412.jpeg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&h=650&w=940

So this place really   plays a great great role as a demonstration site  where people can learn. So in our market garden,   we really try to make it as simple as possible  so that people can really understand the basics.   For example, here you see we have cassava we have  our kale here, we also have pigeon peas, we have   lettuce that just dried up, and we have parsley.  Being a hot area, water is a very scarce resource,   so we show them how to conserve water on the  ground and this is done by putting up swales.   In our market garden, we have integrated a lot of  trees that we hope in the long term will give us   shade and fruits and also timber and firewood. So  we will be kind of self-sustainable in the near   future. Behind me is the tower with a well below  it. The idea was to have water pumped up the tank   and have gravity fed irrigation throughout our  system. And we decided to use the vertical space   by integrating a bedroom, a guest bedroom, and  also on the topmost level we have a place where   someone can relax watch the sunset or just chill  and listen to a podcast.

This is our wild area   we have a lot of trees already that has  grown that are indigenous to this place,   for example, this uleleshwa tree. It's a wild sage  and it's a very beneficial tree to our community,   because we use it as perfume you can put it under  your armpits and you smell nice. We also use it   as natural tissue paper. We are really trying  to rewild this area because it's our zone five   and it's the farthest from the house. We've been  adding more indigenous trees into this area, we've   added fruit trees as well and flowering trees  and this is also where we also have our bee hives   and so it's been great trying to reforest this  place and bring it back to become a real forest..

Sierra Leone Has The Best Jollof In Africa?! πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡±πŸ‡¬πŸ‡πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬ African Food Mukbang Ep.1 | Authentic African

https://www.youtube.com/embed/EEwusStHTWg

what i've noticed at least in a couple of other countries that have jellof rice they tend not to have like a stew like this don't know why we do it differently but this adds extra flavor to the jell-o rice the already very flavorful jollof rice it adds extra flavor to it so it's really good the best jello fries yeah argue with yourself absolutely amongst yourselves what's up guys welcome back to my channel my name is joannis or joe hatawa i'm a sierra leonean american living here in west africa i'm in sierra leone right now we got a mukbang for you today i'm joined by two very special guests one mariamba forbes hi and i also have tracy with us as well uh mariama can you give a little bit about who you are and what you do hi everybody my name is mariama forbes and i'm here instead of reconnecting with my roots you can follow me as well and follow me as i connect adventure through surya cool and i'll have all of that in the description like all of the pages that you can find mariama on and tracy you are not a youtuber but you know you decided to grace us with your presence thanks to mariama's coercion um so tracy can you tell us a little bit about what you're doing here hi guys my name is tracy pauline albert and i moved to sierra leone about eight months back okay and i work at the education sector nice and you moved here from india yes you're from india nice so we're going to talk a little bit about the food we're going to talk about what we ordered there's a lot of food here so we can talk through what it is and what's in it some of the cultural differences between india sierra leone and then of course my american cultural background and of course mariama's uk background and then we're going to talk a little bit about how the food tastes maybe we'll have some conversations about the future of sierra leone and then we'll end it there all right let's go into the food guys are you excited absolutely let's get into it so we have some binchakara over here which is made out of beans it's fried with a tiny little bit of salt it's really nice and delicious and it's like a vegan option we have some rice we got some buffalo over here and we have some sour sour to go with it and yeah go joe go ahead and tell us what you've got this is the steel four the jellof rice the famous sierra leone jill of rice i think the best jello price in west africa curious i mean you guys can debate it amongst yourselves we already know so this is the stuff that goes along with the jell-o price we have some jollof rice here we have some bean stew here this is vegan friendly i'm a vegan um same with the jell-o fries as well stew maybe not so much so today i'm just going to have the jell-o fries plain and then tracy do you want to go into the snacks that we have sure let's see what we have here we have some yam chips peanut brittle and spicy sweet potato chips yes and all of these snacks here are made from mamalu's kitchen they make these snacks here in certainly we're gonna have um all the information about them how you can order yourself some in the description box yeah and i think we also forgot the plantain chips too oh disappointing a special favorite of mine i love plantain chips there's actually some coconut oh coconuts coconut things too so we have a wide variety of snacks here and they're very good from mamalu kitchen the bin chakra and the beans are from nifty street food they are a uk-based catering company but they're also based in sterling as well again or everything you need to know about them if you're looking to order their food as well will be on the description box i'm gonna eat the white rice and the beans and some of the jello fries and maybe a little bit of michikara and some of the snacks here i am not a fan of fufu so that's all for me because i love myself i'm the sierra leone that doesn't need food for yourself i've been eyeing that jollof rice for a while okay so let me let me pass it over to you thank you go ahead and grab some go for it i'm gonna start off with the fufu so i'm gonna take the sour sour soup you guys can see that got my fish in here as well i might get some jell-o fries maybe and get some of the the stew itself with just the onions yeah i'm not one of the really strict ones where if there's like chicken in the food i won't eat it i just won't eat the chicken so i'm i'm not that guy but so i'm gonna grab some of this because i love jello fries and how how can i have this on the table and not have something and i am here on wrapping my fishy guys i'm starting with more of a heavy meal because it's the heaviest i would say normally i have my frisbee with my hand because i really don't care i'm an african woman but i've got long nails right now so that can't happen so that's the bean chakra so the bhitakara is fried and you said there's a little salt in there yeah so you grind the beans and then you have to like almost like beat it beat it beat it it add a tiny bit of salt some people do some people don't let you frying outside and so for me i get my protein through beans so i like because i you know i don't eat animals so i'm going to add some of this beanstalk no you don't eat animals we eat their food correct so are you starving them no definitely not that is what i'm feeling every vegan i'm like you're vegan but you're starving by eating that food incorrect there is so much vegetation on the planet for them to eat there's so much presentation on the planet for animals to eat there are many other arguments that are better than starving and the discussion for another day okay yes so there is this argument which i haven't been able to confirm or i guess deny is the idea that humans made the leap because of proteins that came from meat in terms of our being able our ability to like create fire do math these kinds of things language et cetera et cetera that's definitely a theory not necessarily fact because you don't know anything that happened thousands of years ago those are estimates or guesses but that argument i can maybe rock with a little bit but not the starving whatever anyway we're not starving animals but i want to get some of these plantain chips before we get i'm getting some of these i'm going to have the coconut the coconut it looks so good okay that's interesting kitchen coconut the way they close them up is actually really interesting too it keeps it nice and you know yeah it doesn't get cold so you like the food it's good it's so good like it's the salad salad is really nice one thing i like about salsa is that i feel like if you have a cold or anything like that it just really makes you you know get better faster so i really like it we all have decided to come here from different places i'm coming from the uk but i was born in germany i left here when i was five years old because of the war and i've come back and forth a few times but this is the first time i've come where i've come during rainy seasons and not holiday season okay and i'm having a completely different experience than i had before because like when i come during um holiday season is more of like just you know going out having fun not really experiencing the country right whereas this time i'm having a completely different experience how is it like being you know from you coming from america and then for me obviously coming from india you know so for me i've been coming to sierra leone since 2009 that was the first time i came as an adult and then coming again in 2017 but in both of those instances i came with family members my aunts and uncles or my parents and so they were deciding where we went and where we stayed and all those things when i first started coming in 2018 and i've been back i think six times since my experience has been a little bit different because now i get to control my experience so hanging out with friends staying at different places going to different events it's definitely given me a broader experience but as you mentioned most of those times we're in december and that will give you a very different experience than what you get during the regular year because everybody comes back in december so you have all the diasporans right so people from the uk people from the us other parts of europe and its parties non-stop right being here not during the holiday season is a lot different because you know you're everyone's at work and work mode right not vacation mode so you're not seeing everybody every day you're not going out to events all the time so then you have to kind of make time to get together so like yesterday we had a barbecue here yeah emma came to that yeah so that was cool it's good to get everybody together and hang out and then my group of friends what they do is on wednesdays they have a happy hour where they get together at a country laws really big hotels here that has a really nice view so they get together on wednesdays and have happy hours so that's been interesting and that's been a difference i would say between the two and then just the major differences between being in the us and in sierra leone i would say it's just the the lifestyle i feel more free here if i get pulled over by the police i don't fear being pulled over by the police right it's just a conversation whereas if it was in the u.s right i don't have to belabor the point but you guys know as a person of color being pulled over by the police you do fear that you will survive you have to comply to survive right is that is the advice that is given to you so that's something that's different also black excellence or people of color excellence where we're not minorities anymore we're the majority and for you tracy what was he about to learn specifically i made you like wanna come here from india well i moved here for work um and to be very honest just reflecting back on um what i was expecting i really didn't know what to expect when i moved here there isn't a lot of information out there about what uh it is like to live in syria especially if you're moving from another country so kudos to you guys actually for throwing some light on that but yeah when i moved here i was pleasantly surprised by all the parallels that i could draw between a life here and like back in india yeah and i think i've had this conversation with quite a few people here as well in terms of just like the energy the color the vibrance and even some of the chaos so i do feel quite at home when i'm here in sierra leone just in terms of all of those things so i've been to new delhi before oh you have i have yes i was there i've never been out there for ten days okay for a wedding and do you guys call those rickshaws okay yeah what do you got yeah so there's a similarity right exactly so i remember seeing those and being like i saw those in sierra leone so that's one of the major similarities right yes the rickshaws and we call kk i keep saying kk but it's k-e-h-k-e-h okay i'm working on my accent you're having the beans right now yes how do you like it i really like it yeah extremely flavorful again i feel like i keep i can't help but draw parallels of course the spices used are very different but it is still as flavorful as food would be back home and i like indian food i love indian food i used to eat chicken masala when i ate chicken broken juices are my favorite oh you do i love it it's like my favorite favorite rice i'm waiting to eat my jello fries right now because that's the i'm saving the best part for last period and um we didn't we didn't get a ton of jollof rice as you can see um when we ordered it i think we were expecting a little bit more yeah so i mean i don't want to take too much i'm waiting for mariama to get her portion but i had one bite and it's really good as i expected i mean what what else would you expect wow obviously yeah my costume is really really good but as you know it's quite heavy so i think i'm gonna take a break from eating this for a bit because there's quite a bit of bones in there as well so there's plenty of beans as you can see there's so much beans so the restaurant again who got the beans who gave us the beans in the rice so nifty street food nifty street food they are based in the uk and they also have branch not in syria nice serving size is nifty street food i know and i like taste so good very very good i had gone to an indian restaurant with a friend here in sierra leone okay and they serve this indian dish called biryani okay and the way i described it to the friend was essentially like it's it's it's the indian jollof rice how was the indian food here locally it's pretty good okay is it is it is it is it made by indians yes there is a pretty big indian community here in syria and again something i didn't know before i moved forward so i was again pleasantly surprised in some cases the families have been here for like a couple of generations oh wow exactly so quite interesting yeah i've definitely had indian food in ghana it was pretty good it was good so i do a home delivery vegan food service an indian lady actually makes it very good food because i know you guys have a lot of vegetarian options right so yes so it's a very good food what has it been like for you being vegan in africa yeah that's a great question it's been challenging to say the least very talented challenging everything is mostly you know like growing from the ground yeah because i don't i mean i don't think you realize when you're not immediate when you are a meat eater are you in your carnivore i guess you can say how much food meat goes into everything right and so when you go to a restaurant and ask them can you make this without chicken there's always a conversation like for sure and a lot of times two people use pig fat and like different things to make things for me it's probably limited what options i have so i tend to eat a lot of vegetable spring rolls that's been the main thing and the thing is that not only am i vegan but i tend to try to eat healthier you know there aren't as many non-fried options right so like yesterday there was a chinese restaurant that we went to it's not a sierra leone restaurant but they have steamed wontons right which is why i would prefer something steamed but they only had pork or beef i think right and so of course i would wanted the vegetable wontons steamed but they didn't happen it does limit what i can get and so like even as you can see like the bean chakra is fried right when i ask for food without meeting it there's always the like confusion like are you sure so you mean fish right okay fish and i'm like no i don't eat fish so like wait are you sure you don't want me and it's like a back and forth so that's really the issue what i would say too is the variety of fruits and vegetables are a little bit harder to come by and see early on you can get them they might be a little more expensive and you have to know where to go to get them but unlike in the west where you walk into a grocery store and there's a section for fruits and vegetables i don't know if it's like that in india yeah we do okay so here sometimes there stands outside or you have to go elsewhere to go find a local seller because they usually because there's not the best of refrigeration services usually those things are picked freshly the day before maybe two days before and then brought to town and then you have to buy from those people who are those vendors food is so good i can't even i can't it is really good for the conversation this is this is the thing it's challenging to eat and talk good guys i'm telling you like the food is so good the most sort of mainstream perspective that i had was unfortunately through the movie blood diamond and i don't think that is a good reference at all period oh my god but it's a good movie though it's a great movie yeah but if you're moving to sierra leone like that's not what you should be recognizing right right

Sudden Expedition to Cocoa & Rubber Farm in Remote African Village (GHANA πŸ‡¬πŸ‡)

https://www.youtube.com/embed/JKuj57G6bpo

This is going to be a fun and exciting day, He asked me to show the passport and permission letter. He told me that I cannot cross the border. He told me to go back to Abidjan. If it becomes night, then I will get stuck in this place. I was not able to understand anything, I was out of my mind. It is 7:00 in the evening and there is no place to stay. This is a village. The condition of the road is very bad. It was not easy to come to the Cocoa plantation. Now, we are trying to visit the rubber plantation. This is known as pod.

Hey guys very good morning, Welcome back to my new vlog. My name is Tourvashu. Currently, I am in Abidjan which is economic capital of Ivory coast. Now it's time to visit the next country in this trip. This is my 11th country which is Ghana. It is currently 8:00 in the morning and I am with my friend Blancha. Now, we are going to the bus station. I am going to the bus station where, I had got down in Abidjan while coming.

I am going to Adjame, from there I will find car. I will get car to the border of Ghana because the border is officially closed. The border is closed, so I have taken permission from the ministry to cross the border. Since the border is closed, there is no direct vehicle to the city. I already have Ghana visa, I had applied it in Liberia. It was very difficult to get the visa, I had to convince the officer. The visa cost is 70 dollars which is valid for 3 months and it is single entry. The documents which were asked for the visa were the yellow fever certificate, hotel booking and covid vaccination certificate. I had to fill a form and the next day I got my visa. We are going to the bus stand through uber. The capital of Ghana is Accra, I had planned to visit Accra, but my plans has changed.

I am going to Cape coast. One of my friend recommended me to go to that place. First we'll go to Cape Coast and then I will go to Accra. The distance from Abidjan to Cape cost is 400 km. There is no direct transportation, I have to divide this journey in four different transportations. First, I have to go till the border which is 150 km. My friend will leave me till the border. After that I have to go to the border crossing and immigration. This is going to be a difficult task and it will be very adventurous. I will reach Cape coast in the afternoon. I am very excited to visit Ghana country. We have come out of the city and there are many people here. There is a lot of difference in the two areas. Ivory coast is known as one of the most developed country in Africa.

Ghana is also similar to this country. I have heard that Ghana is also a very well developed country, lets go and witness it by ourselves. We have reached Adjame and the School is over. Many children are standing outside. Boys have the brown colour uniform and girls have the blue colour uniform. This is the morning view of Adjame city, there are old houses and old quarters. The time is 8:15 am. The taxi fare was 3500 CFA which is 470 INR. We are very far from the area. We had went to that area through public transport, now we have come here through taxi.

The car leaves at 9:00 a.m. I will take the ticket and then drink coffee. I also have some CFA left, I will exchange it near the border. I have to get a haircut but, I am not ready to go. Last time I had got haircut in Senegal and it was very bad. I will get a haircut in Ghana and if it is not possible, I will go back to India and then get haircut. We have come to a bakery to have some croissant and coffee. This is a French pastry. There are a lot of variety items sold here. We have come to this coffee shop. We will have this croissant and then go to the next destination.

In whole of Africa you get 2 types of coffee. One with milk and one without milk. The coffee is ready. This is coffee powder and this is syrup of milk and sugar powder. This is the first time I am having tea in a bowl. I have one cheese croissant and one chocolate croissant. He is drinking coffee in the spoon. 10000 CFA is the cost for travelling 160 km. Which is 1250 INR. I am waiting for my car, these local women are preparing local food. These are some vegetables, I don't know whether it's soup or not. Two people are processing it here. It is a flour and there is also Aloo and Atta. They are also making curry. There is fish. They are making curry. I had come here at morning 8:15 Now the time is 11:15, it has been more than 3 hours. It has been more than three hour and the car is not ready to go. There is no direct transport because the border is closed.

I thought we will reach by night but I don't think so we can reach by night. The bag has been kept and the they are not able to close the back door. He is tying a rope to close the door. The car is ready to move after 4 hours. The time is 12 pm. It is already afternoon, I don't know when we will reach. He is going inside the country and I am going outside the country. Blancha helped me a lot. He took me around the city, he helped me to find the car which goes till the border, he has helped a lot.

There are very less people who help like this. He has helped me a lot. I salute him! He has helped me a lot. Welcome to Ghana. This is my 11th country in this trip and I have entered the country. I faced a lot of problems, now the time is 6:00 p.m. By this time, I had to reach Cape coast. I am still near the border between Ivory Coast and Ghana I have travelled only 160 km and I have to still travel more than 200 km. I don't know when I will reach the city, the time is very less. I have to take a car from the border to Cape coast, I don't know whether I will find a direct car. I have exchanged my currency, I have also brought a SIM card. I will tell you everything step by step. This is Ghana.

People are standing here, there are many buses. There are two ways to reach the capital, I have to take car till the Cape cost because I am very far from the capital of this country. The second type is have to take a car till Takoradi and then take another car to Cape coast. If it becomes night, we are going to get stuck in this place. This is 60 CEDI. I have to travel for a total of 220 kilometers, first I have to travel for 140 km, then I have to change my transportation and travel for another 80 km. The car will not go until the car is full. This is the main problem here in Africa.

I will tell you what are the procedures that I have undergone to come till here. When I reached the border, they asked my passport and the permission letter because the border is officially closed. When I showed my permission letter they told that 'We have not received your permission request.' They told me that, I can not cross the border. They told me to go back to Abidjan. They will allow me only when they received the permission request. I thought my energy, money and time and everything is wasted. I thought that I have to go back to Abidjan. I had to tell the ministry so that they can allow me to enter the country. I was out of my mind! People are shouting, they are telling only to record myself and nothing else. It is very difficult to make a video here. They sent my permission request through WhatsApp and called me back.

After that they allowed me within half an hour. After that I came to Ghana immigration. 1 INR was equal to 8 CFA. The currency of Ghana is CEDI and here is completely opposite. 1 CEDI is equal to 8 INR. The currency has changed a lot. He is exchanging the currency, I don't know at what rate I had got the currency. I have exchanged my currency from CFA to CEDI. I have also taken the SIM card for 20 CEDI which is 160 INR. I have again paid 10 CEDI for the recharge which is 80 INR for 1GB. I will add extra if I want.

Everything happened at the border. I got the taxi from the border till here it is only about 1 kilometer. He was asking for money, so I gave him 20 CEDI which is 160 INR I am waiting for my vehicle, I have paid 45 CEDI for travelling 140 km. You will be shocked to hear that Ghana and Indian per capita GDP are same. This is my tenth country excluding Morocco. All the 10 countries lie in the same time zone. It is GMT 0 it is 5 and half hours before Indian Standard Time.

The time zone hasn't changed from the last 10 countries. I have heard that Ghana is also a very well developed country like Ivory coast. In Ghana 70% population follow Christianity, 20% follow the Islamic religion. This is a Christian majority country. I am not able to believe that I have travelled 10 countries by land. I have travelled 10 countries by land and I had come to Africa only with one visa which was Morocco. It is 7:00 in the evening there is no place to stay. I don't know when the car will move. There are many shops outside, some are close and some shops are open. I will take a drink. This Soya drink is sold in almost in all the places of West Africa. It is sold in India also. There are three flavors chocolate, strawberry and plain.

This is milo drink for 10 CEDI which is 80 INR This drink is imported from Malaysia, I used to drink this a lot in Malaysia. From morning, I have not eaten anything. I had drank coffee and ate croissant. I am eating this and managing my day. I have come to a grocery store and I can see many Indian Products. This is Parle wafers. There are many Parle Company biscuits. It is already 8:30 in the night. There is a lot of noise, people are playing lottery tickets. This town is in the border so some people are speaking English and some are speaking French.

Because Ghana is a English speaking country and the official language is English. Britishers had ruled this country. They got independence in 1957 from Britishers. There is a stall here in the bus stand. Now, the time is 1:15 In the Midnight. I have reached Takoradi, I have met a local person. Today, I am going to stay in this town. A lot of time is wasted, I had come out in the morning and now the time is 1:15 a.m.

A lot of time is consumed in travelling this short distance. I have come to his house. I thought I have to spend a night in garage but I have come here. I will meet you guys tomorrow morning. Hey guys very good morning and welcome back, I am continuing this from yesterday's video. Now, I am in Ghana, Takoradi. This is the nearest town which lies near the border. I slept at 2 a.m. I woke up at 10:00 am, now the time is 11 a.m.

I have plans to visit some tourist places here. I have ordered this in the breakfast. This is bread omelet and this is Milo drink. This is all in one ready to mix pouch. We have to just add hot water and the drink is ready. We are ready to go out and now I have my friend Abizi. He is a local from this place. This is the 4th most populated area in Ghana. The population of this area is around 5 lakhs.

The population of Accra and other main cities are more. When Europeans had come here to colonize Ghana, All the nearby places like Cape coast where I am going, they had come to these same areas. Many European powers had colonized this place. This place was colonized by Europeans, Dutch, Portuguese, Sweden and British. It has started to rain. Europeans wanted to colonize the different parts of Africa. In the year 1884 the conference was conducted in Berlin. It is known as 'Scramble For Africa.' It is also known as 'Conquest of Africa.' In the conference, Africa was divided to many parts. And it was given to different European powers for colonizing. Many other countries wanted to colonize Africa. But after the scramble For Africa, the country was given to different European powers. They had planned this very well. After that, Britishers got Ghana.

If you search it in the net, you will get a lot of information about Scramble in Africa. I have come here to buy a water bottle. This is a very big supermarket. He is buying the water bottle. This is 0.75 litre water bottle for 1.2 CEDI which is 10 INR. We are sitting in a local taxi. Two third of the world's cocoa plantation is done in Ghana and Ivory coast. Ghana is the second largest producer of cocoa after the Ivory coast. Now, we have come here to visit the Coco plantation. I will explain it in detail manner once I reach the destination. He is telling, yesterday the weather was very good, it was very sunny. But today it is raining. This is 200 CEDI note. We are purchasing ticket to the destination where we are going. Carbonated drinks are sold in glass bottles. This Mirinda is sold in glass bottle. We have come inside the car and we don't know the exact distance.

But he is telling it might take around two hours to reach the destination. They are selling rice and chicken in a packed box. They have kept it on their head. We have reached the destination. We have travelled for almost 2 hours 30 minutes. Now, the time is 3:30 p.m. There are hens on the road Children's are walking on the road. There are goats as well. This is actually a village. The name of this village is 'Simpa.' The condition of this road is very bad. The road is very uneven, some are going down and some are climbing the road. He was telling that almost every people in this village are involved in farming. Everybody does farming. It is same as any other village. There is water on the road, the wheel might get stuck. Which bird is this? I guess this is a turkey. Bread is being sold in the shops. There are also snacks and biscuits. This is a very small village, we are walking on this bridge, because the bike cannot travel anymore.

They have constructed this Mini Dam. This looks like a dam. This water is used for the farming in this village. We have come inside the dense forest. I can see trees and plants everywhere, I can hear some animal sounds. Chocolate is made from cocoa, which is grown in Ghana and is one of the main Cash crop. We have come in the cocoa plantation farm. Cocoa is the main income source for majority of the people in Ghana maybe it's directly or indirectly. Along with Cocoa, rubber and timber plantation is also very common here. There is also a rubber plantation, I will visit that place if I have time. This is cocoa pod. There will be multiple pods in one single Cocoa tree. There are many cocoa beans inside one cocoa pod. This is very fleshy, after processing this chocolate is made. Chocolate powder is made from this. He is going to eat this directly. It tastes like Sitafal. The taste of this is very sour. This yellow fruit is ready to be cut. All the trees which are observed here are cocoa trees. There are some red Cocoa pods also.

No one look after this place, I guess the cocoa will get spoilt. Cocoa plantation can be done only where there is rainfall or forest area. A lot of rainfall is needed for the plantation. This is very sensitive, it cannot be grown everywhere in the world. If there is lot of Sunlight and wind the tree might get destroyed. The pod start to grow on the tree after 4 years. The average lifespan of the cocoa tree is 30 years, the tree produces pods for 30 years. Cocoa seeds will be extracted from the pods and it is processed and different products are made.

In a full-grown tree, there will be more than 30 cocoa pods. And inside one cocoa pod, there will be more than 30 cocoa beans. I cannot take it because, I don't have any place in the bag. There are more than 25 companies in this country. All the companies are government controlled and cocoa is exported throughout the world through these companies. Cocoa contributes a lot of portion in the GDP of the country. Cocoa plantation is very infamous in West Africa because of child labor and child trafficking. This is a very big major concern for international community. There are very less schools in the villages.

The demand for Cocoa is increasing day by day. Because of this, child labour is more in West Africa. The chocolate powder or the chocolate which you consume in India, there are lot of chances that those products are from Ghana or Ivory coast. It was not easy to visit the cocoa plantation. Now, we are trying to visit a rubber plantation. It will get dark very soon, I don't think we will be able to go to the rubber plantation. It's raining now. I wish my passport doesn't get wet. We have to carry passport with us, police might stop us anywhere and check the passport. Rubber plantation is main in South Asia and South East Asia. Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam are the main 3 exporters of rubber. According to many sources, India is the fourth largest country which produces rubber. Now, we have come to rubber plantation which is there in Ghana. These all are rubber trees. This is rubber plantation. There is many physical and chemical properties in rubber which is known as elasticity. Rubber has become very important product from many centuries. They have cut the tree in such a way so that they can find the lattix..

The white liquid is lattix. Rubber is produced from this and there are some insects on the tree. This is a very sticky substance and it is already dry. Rubber plantation is seen more in Kerala. They have tied this bucket using the help of metal wire. Same like cocoa tree, the lifespan of one rubber tree is around 32 years. Lattix extraction can be found after 7 years of plantation.

25 million tone of rubber is extracted around the globe annually. In that, only 30% is natural rubber production. Remaining 70% rubber is prepared in chemical and synthetic process. I have showed you cocoa and rubber plantation today. It takes a week to fill this bucket with rubber. It is 5 p.m. we are going to the bus station before it becomes dark. We will find bus which goes back to Takoradi. He has helped me in roaming this area, so I have given him 50 CEDI which is 400 INR. We have got the bus which directly goes to the Takoradi. I have come back to the room. I have ordered this for my dinner. This is Wa-chay, a local food. This is made from rice and Beans.

I have also purchased this 2 yogurt packets. I have purchased two flavors, one is apricot and another one is vanilla flavor. There is pipe here. I have to take it from here. The straw is already attached and is ready to drink. I have purchased this for 8 CEDI which is 80 INR. I will eat this and then meet you again when we are ready to go to Cape coast.
