Omaha's Henry Doorly zoo welcomes first African elephant calf

HERE'S ROB MCCARTNEY. ROB: AFTER A 22-MONTH PREGNANCY, THIS BABY ELEPHANT IS READY FOR HER CLOSP.EU THE NEW CALF, BORN TO MOM "KIKI" ON JANUARY 7, WAS A SPECIAL DELIVERY IN MORE WAYS ANTH ONE. >> THIS IS THE FIRST CALF BORN IN OUR HISTORY, AND ONE THAT'S REALLY BEEN SEVEN YEARS IN THE MAKI.NG AND I SAY THAT, BECAUSE IT STARTED WITH THE PLANNING OF THIS FACILITY BACK IN 20.14 ROB: THAT'S DENNIS PATE, THE ZOO'S DIRECTOR. HE SAYS EVERYONE IS SO EXCITED TO SEE THE CALF SETTLE IN. >> EVERYBODY HERE AT THE ZOO IS ECSTATIC ABOUT THIS, BECAUSE PART OF THE REASON IS BECAUSE YOU GOT TO WAIT 22 MONTHS FOR IT TO HAPPEN. ROB: THE CALF ALREADY WEIGHS BETWEEN 175 AND 200 POUN.DS BUT IT'S STILL GOING TO BE A LITTLE WHILE BEFORE THE PUBLIC GETS TO COME VISIT KIKI AND HER CALF IN-PERSON.

REPORTER: PATE SAYS, ETH ELEPHANTS' ARRIVAL IS A GREAT THING FOR THE ZOO AND THE ANIMALS. >> IT'S INCREDIBLE FOR THE Z.OO IT'S INCREDIBLE FOR THE TWO LVES, WHO WILL BE PLAYMATES.A AND SO, THEY'LL BE WRESTLING WITH ONE ANOTHER, THEY'LL BE TESTING ONE ANOTHER, THERE'LL BE STANDING ON THEIR HEADS, THEY'LL BE CRAWLING OVER ONE ANOTH.
