Africa is a continent full of beauty its beauty can be seen through its places and its people welcome to the amazing people of Africa series where we take a look at some of the indigenous people of Africa we'll be looking at their lifestyle culture and getting to learn about life through the knowledge and experiences before we start please take the time to subscribe and hit the notification Bell if you have come across one of our old Africa dance videos then I'm pretty sure you may have come across the zombie dance it might be just one of the hardest dancers in the world so in today's video we'll be looking at the people behind this incredible dance the Zuni dance is a popular African mask dance created by the guru Community who live along the Ivory Coast in the bandama river valley it is characterized by the intricate legwork the Superhuman moves and the Beautiful masts during the dance several masks are worn the dance was created in the 1950s and was inspired by a young Guru girl and to honor her till today the generic must worn by the dancers carry her name jela although Zuli was named after a young girl the dance is only performed by men and the tradition usually flows through families the dance itself originated in the small region of guafe and it became so popular that these days the dancers catapulted boafly region onto the world it is performed in Europe Asia and in light celebrations across Africa like the festima in Burkina Faso each Village has their own designated Zuli dancer on average it takes a performance seven years to perfect his moves as a Zuli dancer it is extremely physically demanding and during a performance a dancer gets extremely exhausted the dancer holds his body still while his legs perform a mirror of different moves and he isn't even allowed to repeat one of the moves during his performance so while they may look similar the complexity of his feet movements is just on another level foreign how does one master such complex LED movements well many people believe that the mask that they wear holds superpowers The Mask which celebrates feminine beauty can take up to six days to be made and depending on the individual Artisan process it is kept a big secret when a dancer wears the mask It is believed that the mask dancer is no longer himself no longer moves by himself but actually moves faster as is taken over by the masked superhuman powers foreign so there you have it that is the background behind one of the world's most famous and most difficult dances thank you for watching today's video If you haven't subscribed yet please do so and hit the notification Bell if you've enjoyed today's video be sure to give it a thumbs up also make sure to watch our other videos we celebrate our Mama Africa we have the mysteries of Africa series and the amazing people of Africa series it's been milinda from China travel be sure to check out my YouTube channel until the next video stay safe and remember Africa watching
