For me, there is a huge difference between stop motion technology as an art form and digital. Back in the day, stop motion, where you had the ripples and flashes of fur and fabric, even air dust on set, was great to watch this glitch because it tells you how it's all made. I wanted this film to arrive in a way that had the expressive, materialistic nature of hand-made animation, a beautiful manual exercise in sculpting and painting, but characterized by the intricate movement we got from our research on rigs and puppet making. In terms of size, we use different sizes of dolls to meet different needs. This is a version of "Pinocchio" when he deals with a cockroach. In order for it to be the right size, we need to put the cockroach on Pinocchio's shoulder, talk to him, whisper in his ear and lie close to him. So we used this big Pinocchio, with this little cockroach, and in other shots, we use this little Pinocchio. "Pinocchio" is a tale told through centuries.
